Motion Tracking
+ Space
A study of shapes and movement quality based on the Spoke, Arc, and Carve concepts of the Laban pathways.
Using charcoal and film, I traced my body movement through space to then digitally translate the pathways into objects. The initial experimentation focused on Laban dance quality implications of traveling spoke, arc, and carve motions occupying low, medium, and high levels.
After reviewing the film and physical remnants on paper, I digitally traced the pathways that were taken as well as how they were influenced by their invisible dance partner. Linework was created by distilling the shapes created by the body itself [in black] and the direction of movement dictated by the quality force and level that was occupied in space [in red]. I then manipulated that linework into abstract forms to be 3D printed.
